Dallas Mavericks: Kristaps Porzingis is the key to defeating the LA Clippers
By Tyler Watts
Why Kristaps Porzingis is key for Dallas Mavericks to top Clippers: 3. Second scorer
Luka Doncic is going to score and find open teammates. The Clippers will attempt to force the ball out of his hands and make life difficult for the 21-year-old superstar. It won’t matter. Doncic averages 29.0 points per game against the Clippers this season. It is impossible to stop him.
The Mavs need KP to fill that second scoring role. He averages just 18.3 points on 34.7 percent shooting the field against the Clippers this year. Those stats are significantly boosted by his 30-point performance inside the bubble.
Porzingis has missed shots against LA. 30 of his 49 field goal attempts are classified as open or wide open by NBA Stats. He has connected on just 26.6 percent of those shots.
That cannot happen in the playoffs. The Unicorn must put it through the net when he is open if Dallas is going to pull the upset. The Mavs need him scoring over 25 a night on solid efficiency.
Kristaps Porzingis may need to change his approach a bit against the Clippers. He has the potential to produce massive numbers and help the Mavericks win in this matchup. It could take a few adjustments, though. Let us take a closer look at how KP can excel.
