Why Michael Kidd-Gilchrist could be key for Dallas Mavericks in the playoffs
MKG gives coach Carlisle another unique option. The Mavs offense has been rolling all season. They are leading the 22 teams in the bubble by scoring 125.4 points per game. The offense has never been the issue. The problem is they are allowing 126.6 points a night which ranks last in Orlando. The Mavericks need to improve on defense.
Dorian Finney-Smith remains the team’s best defender. He can guard any player on the floor. Players like Carmelo Anthony give him trouble. Melo is a physical forward that can score in the post. The Mavericks look set to face one of the NBA’s best players of that mold in the playoffs.
Dallas is locked into seventh in the Western Conference. They appear set to square off against the LA Clippers in the first round. Kawhi Leonard is averaging 26.2 points per game versus the Mavs this season. He has dominated Finney-Smith. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist could give Dallas a better option late in the game. If he could slow down Kawhi, the Mavericks might have a chance to steal a few games.
MKG gives Dallas an option to guard those scoring wings and forwards the Mavs have struggled against this season. That should earn him some run in the playoffs. His limited offensive game will keep him from playing a massive role, but that does not mean he cannot make an impact.
Stay tuned for an exciting Dallas Mavericks playoff run. The start is less than a week away.
