Dallas Mavericks: Examining late game struggles and how offense changes
By Tyler Watts
Can the Dallas Mavericks fix their late-game struggles?
This is the million-dollar question right here. As outlined in the article, there are certain things they can improve. Their luck first and foremost should get better. Luka Doncic will improve in these scenarios. It may not happen during NBA Disney, but he will grow over time.
Kristaps Porzingis’ lack of playmaking will still hamper the Mavericks late in games. Dallas needs to add another piece that can take the pressure off Doncic late.
The best thing Dallas can do in crunch time is to continue to run their offense. The slowing down and wasting the clocks results in almost exclusively empty possessions. The Mavs have the best offense in the NBA. Keep the foot on the gas and ride your strength to victory.
The Mavericks have to remain confident too. If they force the ball out of Luka’s hands, someone needs to hit the open shot. Doncic continues to find them late. The attempts are just not falling. Be it luck or something else that has to change.
The Dallas Mavericks have seven more games to get it figured out before the playoffs. They are almost certainly going to be seventh in the Western Conference after losing to the Rockets. Hopefully, the Mavs solve it before the postseason. Expect Luka Doncic to get is squared away, but it may not be before the 2020-2021 season.
