Dallas Mavericks guard Trey Burke is not with the team in Orlando
The Dallas Mavericks are preparing for the season’s restart. Practices have been in full swing. The Mavs are ready for their first scrimmage against the Lakers on July 23. The bubble has been a fantastic opportunity for the team to bond and spend time together.
Fans have been wondering about the status of certain players. Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle ruled out Dwight Powell, Jalen Brunson, and Courtney Lee for the restart before the team departed for Orlando. Everyone found out just days ago that Brunson did not make the trip to Orlando to continue his rehab in Dallas.
The Mavericks are without other players. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist did not travel with the team to Disney World. Willie Cauley-Stein opted out. The Mavs signed Trey Burke to replace him, but he has not made his way to Orlando yet. Coach Carlisle offered an update on their statuses after practice on July 18.
Trey Burke and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist are not with the Dallas Mavericks in Orlando
Carlisle was asked directly about the statuses of Burke and MKG. Hear his answer below.
The Mavericks still expect both players to arrive in Orlando at some point. They will have to quarantine and pass multiple tests for the novel coronavirus before being able to practice. The Mavs are less than two weeks away from their first seeding game, so hopefully, they get to full strength soon.
The Mavericks will have to adjust on the fly without Burke and Kidd-Gilchrist. It solidifies J.J. Barea’s role as the backup point guard. He should be part of the nightly rotation with Brunson sidelined. Justin Jackson will see more minutes at forward if MKG misses time. The Mavericks are a deep team. That depth will pay off again in Orlando.
