Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is a human highlight reel in FIBA play too
The Dallas Mavericks traded for Luka Doncic on draft night 2018. He was already a household name in Europe. Luka led Real Madrid to the EuroLeague and Liga ACB championships in 2018. He was also MVP in both competitions. His arrival came during EuroBasket 2017, though.
An 18-year-old Doncic was partnering in the backcourt with Heat guard Goran Dragic for the Slovenia national team. The country joined FIBA in 1992. They have never medaled at a major competition. Few expected them to do it at EuroBasket 2017.
Doncic and Dragic led Slovenia to the championship in the competition. Luka had 27 points and nine rebounds in the quarterfinal game against Kristaps Porzingis and Latvia. He was impressive throughout the tournament helping him make the all-tournament team.

Each play comes from EuroBasket 2017. It was the first and only major competition Doncic has played in so far. He still hopes to qualify his country for the Olympics if they happen in 2021.
Mavericks fans know that Luka has quickly become one of the best players in the world. He is unstoppable with the ball in his hands.
It will be interesting to see how he changes his game playing for Slovenia. The country has a population of just over 2 million people. Leading them to a major championship is an impressive accomplishment. Just one more reason to never count Doncic out.
