Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic talks NBA’s restart, chemistry, and more

The Dallas Mavericks played their last game on March 11. Luka Doncic had 28 points, but Boban Marjanovic stole the show in win over the Nuggets. During that game, the NBA announced they were suspended play because of the novel coronavirus.

Flash forward as the Mavs just had their first mandatory workout of the restart on July 1. It was a long hiatus without basketball for everyone. Things are just beginning to ramp up. The Mavericks depart for Orlando next week. Training camp 2.0 takes place there followed by eight seeding games before the traditional playoffs.

Luka Doncic will be leading Dallas as they attempt to make a deep playoff run. Fans got to hear from the Mavericks superstar for the first time since March on Thursday.

First, Doncic was asked if he thought about opting out of the restart. The 21-year-old was confident about playing. See his response below.

"“No, I never hesitated. I always wanted to play. I miss basketball a lot, so I just want to play. There was no question about me. I always wanted to play.”"

Fans should not be surprised. Doncic will be ready to hit the ground running. He has a tremendous work ethic and loves the game.

Luka was also asked about the team’s chemistry heading into Orlando. See his response below.

Expect the Mavericks to be ready. The team was just hitting its stride when play was suspended. It should be easier to pick up where they left off. The improved connection between Luka and Kristaps Porzingis will be key for Dallas in Orlando.

He was questioned about what it will be like playing in Orlando with no fans in attendance. Here is what he had to say.

"“Honestly, I don’t know. I’ve never experienced such a thing. It’s going to be worse, for sure. I enjoy very much the fans in the gym… There is always noise, so it’s going to be weird. I don’t know how I’m going to feel.”"
