Former Dallas Mavericks wing Ryan Broekhoff joins Philadelphia 76ers for NBA Orlando

The Dallas Mavericks signed Ryan Broekhoff in 2018. The Australian forward had five years of professional experience in Europe after playing four seasons at Valparaiso in the NCAA. He was a proven shooter that was looking to make it in the NBA.

Broekhoff continued to be a sharpshooter during his two seasons in Dallas. The 29-year-old shot 40.3 percent on his 144 career 3-point attempts. He struggled to find a consistent role with the Mavericks playing in just 59 of 136 possible games. Broekhoff averaged just 4.0 points and 1.8 rebounds in 10.7 minutes per game with Dallas.

The Mavs decided to waive the 6’6 wing in February when Michael Kidd-Gilchrist became available on the buyout market. Broekhoff was in the final season of a two-year contract. Nobody picked up the veteran until June 26.

Philadelphia 76ers agree to deal with former Dallas Mavericks wing Ryan Broekhoff

Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Ryan Broekhoff agreed to deal with the Sixers for the NBA’s restart in Orlando. He gives Philadelphia another shooter and floor space to play off the bench. Broekhoff is also an outstanding free throw shooter.

It will be interesting to see if Broekhoff can earn consistent minutes during training camp 2.0. Mavericks fans know he can put together a 12-point game on limited attempts because of his 3-point shooting. The Sixers could use that spacing around Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. Expect Broekhoff to be an option at the two or three for Philly during NBA Disney.

The Dallas Mavericks will also be in Orlando as part of the 22-team restart. Both teams will be looking to make a deep playoff run at Disney World. The Sixers will be looking to move up like the Mavs during the eight seeding games. Supporters should stay tuned because the unique format should provide plenty of fireworks.
