Dallas Mavericks guard Courtney Lee is out for the season with a calf injury

The Dallas Mavericks are preparing to head to Orlando for the NBA’s restart. They are one of 22 teams taking part. The league will attempt to crown a champion in Disney World.

Mavs fans are excited about the plan. They get eight seeding games to move up in the standings before the postseason. Dallas will make the playoffs and be looking to make a deep run. Here is an in-depth look at why the restart plan is perfect for the Mavericks.

Two Mavs players have already been ruled out for NBA Orlando. Dwight Powell is recovering from Achilles surgery. He hopes to be ready for the opening night of the 2020-2021 season. Jalen Brunson had should surgery just after the NBA suspended play. He too will not be healthy enough to play in Disney.

Now, Courtney Lee will also be sidelined. Let us look at the latest.

Dallas Mavericks guard Courtney Lee to miss NBA Disney with a calf injury

Marc Stein broke the news of Lee’s injury on Monday afternoon. See the tweet below.

Tim MacMahon was quick to follow up that the injury happened in a “freak accident”.

The Mavericks could be facing a predicament now. They will be down three players for the restart. Expect Antonius Cleveland and Josh Reaves to join the Mavs in Orlando. Both are on two-way contracts. That leaves them just 14 healthy players. To take more, the Mavericks would have to waive someone currently on their roster.

Lee is on an expiring contract. He seems like the casualty if the Mavs decide to add a free agent for the restart. They will not be waiving Powell or Brunson, though. That means Dallas can take a maximum of 15 active players to Disney World. They are going to need to stay healthy to successfully navigate the restart.

UPDATE: Brad Townsend reported this on Monday evening.

The Mavs appear set to stand pat with their roster at least for now. Stay tuned to see if that changes as the NBA’s restart approaches.

Hopefully, Courtney Lee makes a speedy recovery and is back in the NBA next season. He will be a free agent after NBA Disney. It appears the Mavericks will have some interest in a reunion next season. Stay tuned for more in the coming months on that front.
