Dallas Mavericks fan’s guide to the latest NBA news ahead of the restart

The Dallas Mavericks are beginning to ramp up for the season’s conclusion. 22 teams will head to Orlando in July. The details of the plan are still being finalized.

Every team will play at least eight times at Disney World. There will be a play-in for the last spot in each conference followed by the traditional playoffs. Play will go until Oct. 13 if the NBA Finals has seven games.

Practices will begin ramping up soon. Testing begins on Tuesday for NBA Disney. More coaches will be allowed in practice facilities. Players will be permitted to workout together too. Woj has all the latest in the two tweets below.

That means full team practices will not happen until they arrive in Orlando. Expect the Mavericks to continue working in Dallas. Fans can see Luka Doncic getting some time in here.

The NBA also set important draft and free agency dates for next season. Things will happen quickly. The draft is scheduled for Oct. 16 with free agency to follow on Oct. 18. That is less than seven days after the NBA Finals if it goes to game seven.

The league is keeping the moratorium. That means players will not be able to officially sign until Oct. 23. Important negotiations need to go on before mid-October. The salary cap must be set. The NBA lost revenue during the pandemic. It will be interesting to see what impact that has on the cap. Most teams won’t be able to spend in free agency because of the expected tightened cap.
