Why Josh Richardson is perfect trade target for Dallas Mavericks: 4. Secondary creator
The Mavs could use a secondary shot creator that can score 15 points per game and space the floor when he does not have the ball. That is the perfect fit as the third piece next to Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis.
Tim Hardaway Jr. checks two of those three boxes. It is a massive reason why he had the best season of his career, but the 28-year-old only creates his own shots. THJ averaged 2.0 assists per game this season.
Richardson is a capable secondary creator. He averaged 4.1 assists per game in his final season with the Heat and 3.1 a night this year. J.J. Barea is second on the Mavericks so far averaging 3.8.
The 26-year-old can bring the ball up the floor. The Sixers allowed him to run some pick and rolls. Richardson’s best off drive and kicks. He drops off to a teammate for an easy dunk or finds the open man beyond the arc.
Adding Richardson would take a bit of pressure off Luka Doncic and give the defense one more wrinkle to worry about every possession. The Mavericks could run a Richardson and Porzingis pick and roll before dishing out to Doncic to create a secondary action. It would make the NBA’s best offense just a bit more dangerous.
