Ranking Dallas Mavericks impact if they miss NBA Orlando: 9. J.J. Barea
Barea has also seen his role take a step back this season. The 35-year-old was coming off a lengthy rehab from his Achilles surgery to start the year. Coach Carlisle used him as a change of pace option throughout this season.
Barea will be asked to play more if Jalen Brunson misses NBA Orlando. More to come on that topic in a moment. Mavericks fans know J.J. can hand out buckets and lead the second unit. The team may need just that in the playoffs.
Ranking Dallas Mavericks impact if they miss NBA Orlando: 8. Jalen Brunson
Brunson injured his shoulder on Feb. 22. He planned on rehabbing and trying to play throughout it for the remainder of the season. When the NBA suspended play, Brunson opted to have surgery. That was back in March. The reported timetable for recovery was four to six months. It leaves the door open a crack that JB is healthy enough to play in Orlando at some point.
Coach Carlisle ruled him out for the season on June 5. Fans should not expect him to play. It will be a significant loss for the Mavericks. Brunson is a steady hand and a capable creator. The Mavs will need that in the postseason.
