Dallas was a bit better positioned than the Bulls following the 1983-1984 season. The Mavericks led by Rolando Blackman and Mark Aguirre made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. They defeated the Sonics in the first round before falling to the Lakers. The Bulls had made the playoffs just one time since 1977.

Jordan went to Chicago and had the Bulls back the playoffs while winning Rookie of the Year. They did not miss the postseason for 14 straight years. The final year of that run was 1998. The season being chronicled in The Last Dance.
