Dallas Mavericks GOAT Dirk Nowitzki received high praise from his countryman and Washington Wizards forward Moritz Wagner. Find out more here.
The Dallas Mavericks took on the Washington Wizards to open the 2019-2020 season. After a back and forth first, the Mavs dominated quarters two and three. They were up 23 points entering the fourth.
The game was not over, though. Moritz Wagner got hot scoring 11 points in the first six minutes to help the Wizards get back into the game. The Mavericks went on to win 108-100, but it was a strong performance from the young German to open his second season.
Wagner was a first round pick by the Lakers in 2018. He was traded to Washington as part of the deal that helped Los Angeles grab Anthony Davis. Wagner was the Wizards stretch five this season. He even dropped 30 points against the Timberwolves on Nov. 15. The 6’11 big man is part of the Wizards young core they are trying to rebuild their team around.
Moritz Wagner celebrated his 23rd birthday on April 26. As part of it, he took over the NBA’s Twitter account to answer questions from fans. He was asked about Dallas Mavericks GOAT Dirk Nowitzki. See his response below.

Wagner calls Dirk “Our MJ”. That is massive praise. Nowitzki paved the way for multiple Germans to make their way to the NBA including Mavs big man Maxi Kleber. Comparing him to Michael Jordan is fitting.
The Dallas Mavericks 2011 championship also struck a chord for Wagner. His comments on that title were profound.
Wagner also shares a birthday with Mavs guard Delon Wright. Hopefully, both men had a great one on Sunday.
