Dallas Mavericks fans are searching for things to do during the NBA’s hiatus. It has been over a month since play stopped, and there is no end in sight. Everyone is just waiting for it to be safe to resume action.

Mavs GOAT Dirk Nowitzki has sat down for a few interviews recently. He retired after 21 historic years in Dallas at the end of the 2018-2019 season. Nowitzki is certain to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

His latest interview took place on April 20 with Ernie Johnson. Mavericks fans can enjoy the entire chat below.

Here is a look at a few high points from their conversation.

Ernie asks him about the story of meeting Charles Barkley for the first time. Mavericks fans know that tale has some lore because of Barkley. Dirk in his typical way downplayed the events, but he certainly put on a show.

On being drafted

Nowitzki tells his draft experience including the pursuit by the Mavericks to get him over from Germany. It took quite a bit of convincing to bring him to Dallas. Then, Dirk talks about his tough rookie season.

They also discuss the pressure early on. Johnson mentions the Larry Bird comparisons, and Dirk brings up Paul Pierce comps. Nowitzki talked about how he dealt with all of that including by tirelessly improving his game.

On growing up in Dallas

Johnson talks to him about the transition from Germany to Dallas. Dirk tells how it was a bit difficult to get adjusted in the beginning. There was a language barrier plus Nowitzki was a 20-year-old.

On the championship

Erin asks about the 2011 title. Nowitzki gives props to his teammates and talks about having to go to the locker room to compose himself after earning the championship. He discusses the incredible feeling of winning it all.
