Small forward: Shawn Marion

Shawn Marion had an unorthodox shot, rebounding ability, defensive versatility, and so much more. There’s a reason why he was called The Matrix. He was all over the floor almost defying gravity with his quickness.

Marion played with the Dallas Mavericks from 2009-2014. He was a key piece of their championship team in 2011. He had multiple clutch performances. Marion was tasked with guarding Kobe Byrant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Brandon Roy during that playoff run.

More. 5 that may have played their last game with Mavs

Marion earned his reputation as one of the league’s top defenders. He had the responsibility of guarding the other team’s best scorer throughout his time in Dallas.

Marion had a profound impact on the small forward position. Stars of today have modeled their game after him. Draymond Green, Harrison Barnes, Jimmy Butler, and Paul George all show flashes of Marion.

He averaged 11.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game during his five seasons in Dallas. His best year came during that championship run. Marion scored 26 points including 14 in the fourth quarter in game five of the Western Conference finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Mavs clinched the series that night, and Marion cemented his legacy in Dallas.

Honorable Mention: Harrison Barnes
