Dallas Mavericks: Best players at each position in the last decade
By Chad Sanchez
Center: Tyson Chandler
Without a doubt, Tyson Chandler is the best center to ever wear a Dallas Mavericks uniform. He brought ferocity, energy, and a defensive presence that was previously unseen in Dallas. Chandler protected the paint every night. He was a stellar roll man, had the versatility to guard multiple positions, and was a tremendous finisher around the basket.
The Mavericks needed Chandler. He was the perfect compliment to Dirk in the frontcourt. The duo helped the Mavs bring home their first and only championship in 2011.
Chandler only played two seasons with the Mavs. He was traded to the Knicks after the 2011 season. The Knicks dealt him back to Dallas in 2014, but Chandler departed in free agency in the summer of 2015 to play for the Suns.
In his first season with the team, Chandler averages 10.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game while shooting around 65.4 percent from the field. His numbers improved in his second stint with Chandler averaging 11.5 points and 10.5 rebounds a night.
One of the great what-if’s is the Mavericks keeping their championship team together after 2011. Keeping Chandler long-term would have improved the Mavs. Who knows how far that would have taken them.
Chandler is not the Mavericks longest-tenured center, but he made a massive impact in his two seasons in Dallas. That earned him nod at the five.
