Dallas Mavericks: J.J. Barea (ankle) misses game vs. Pelicans
By Tyler Watts
Dallas Mavericks guard J.J. Barea sat out on March 4 against the New Orleans Pelicans with an ankle injury. Find out the latest here.
The Dallas Mavericks returned home from a four-game road trip on Wednesday night to face the New Orleans Pelicans. It was the first matchup between Luka Doncic and Zion Williamson. Fans were excited to see the two young stars faceoff. It was the start of a three-game homestand for Dallas.
The Mavs have dealt with a handful of injuries in recent games. Jalen Brunson remains out with a shoulder injury. He is hoping to return and play out the rest of the season with a torn labrum. Their guard rotation took another hit on Wednesday.
J.J. Barea did not play with right ankle soreness. Barea had played in six straight games. He was serving as the backup point guard behind Luka with Brunson out. Barea was averaging 6.0 points and 4.7 assists in 15.3 minutes per game during that stretch.
The Mavericks had Seth Curry back in the lineup against the Pelicans. They used Delon Wright, Courtney Lee, and Curry as guards off the bench.
Their depth has been tested in recent games. Hopefully, the Mavs can get healthy heading into the postseason.
It will be interesting to see if Barea is part of the rotation when Dallas is at full strength. He has been in and out of the lineup this season. J.J. is the only member of their roster with a ring, though. The 35-year-old guard was on the Mavericks 2011 championship team. Coach Rick Carlisle has plenty of options and difficult decisions on his hands.
