Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban joined SiriusXM NBA Radio on Feb. 25 to discuss his protest of the game against the Hawks. Read more here.
The Dallas Mavericks lost a heartbreaker in Atlanta on Feb. 22. It was the second night of a back-to-back for Dallas. They built an early lead only to see it slip away in the fourth quarter. The Mavs were playing without both Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis that night.
There was also a questionable play that happened with less than ten seconds remaining in the game. The Hawks were up two points and had the ball. Trae Young drove to the basket and had his shot blocked by Dorian Finney-Smith. A whistle sounded for a goaltend that was taken away by review. Then, John Collins scooped up the ball and put it back to extend the Hawks lead to four.
The play set off Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. He made comments after the game and even took to Twitter to voice his displeasure. Cuban filed a protest with the league after the game ended.
He went on SiriusXM NBA Radio on Tuesday and discussed the protest. Fans can hear part of his interview here.
Cuban goes in-depth about his thoughts on what he believes the NBA needs to do better to improve the officiating. His analysis is spot on.
The protest?
Cuban thinks the Mavs have a “really good chance” of winning the protest. He also states that they will only push for a replay of the game if it has an impact on the standings. Judging by how tightly packed the Western Conference is at this moment, it will likely make a difference.
Ultimately, the decision is in the hands of NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. He will have to decide if the referees made a mistake. If it was an inadvertent whistle while the ball was loose, there would be a jump at midcourt with approximately nine seconds remaining and Dallas down two.
Fans should keep an eye out for the ruling in the coming days. The Smoking Cuban will have it all covered for supporters, so keep it locked right here.
