Dallas Mavericks wing Courtney Lee has been used sparingly this season, but the veteran would be a rotation player on most teams. Find out why here.
The Dallas Mavericks will be looking for their 36th win on Feb. 26 against the San Antonio Spurs. They have already topped last season’s win total. The Mavs are a near-lock to head back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. It is difficult to argue with success.
Depth may be the Mavericks’ biggest strength. Having two stars makes winning easier, but they have the pieces to grab victories even when Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis are on the sidelines. The Mavs are so deep that talented players cannot even crack their nightly rotation. Coach Rick Carlisle has difficult decisions to make each game.
One such man is Courtney Lee. He came to Dallas in last year’s Kristaps Porzingis trade. The Knicks wanted off Lee’s $12.8 million salary for this season. He will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
The 34-year-old veteran has played a total of 182 minutes this season. He earned a surprising start on opening night against the Washington Wizards to defend All-Star guard Bradley Beal. Lee was quickly out of the rotation and did not play because of a coach’s decision for much of the season. He has worked his way back into the mix in recent games (thanks in part because of injuries) and is showing out.
Courtney Lee would be in the rotation every game for most NBA teams. Here is why.
