2. Luka finishes top-3 in MVP voting

Luka Doncic has slipped a bit in the race to win Most Valuable Player. He averaged a 30-point triple-double for the month of November. Luka may have been in the lead at that point. He continued to play well until suffering an ankle injury just one minute and 40 seconds into the game against the Miami Heat on Dec. 14. That put a damper on his stats and caused him to miss four games.

Doncic played well in the next 18, but it was a small step behind his previous numbers. He was averaging 28.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game.

Another ankle injury cropped up on Jan. 30. That caused him to miss seven straight games. Luka returned and dropped 33 points against the Kings in the final contest before the break.

The Mavericks star should still be in the top-five in MVP voting if the season ended today. That is all about to change, though.

Doncic is going to go off down the stretch and get back into the top three. Giannis Antetokounmpo will likely win the award for the second year in a row. LeBron James may edge him as the Lakers finish with the best record in the West, but Doncic will finish third in his second season.
