Mavericks rumors: Looking at Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

The Dallas Mavericks are exploring every avenue to improve their roster. They are a lock to make the playoffs, but the Mavs are not satisfied with that. Winning a series and making a push is the new goal.

To accomplish that, the front office is attempting to put the roster in the best position to succeed. Making upgrades before the Feb. 6 trade deadline is on the agenda. The Mavericks have a trade exception plus Courtney Lee’s expiring contract to move in hopes of adding additional help.

That means plenty of rumors are flying around. Here is a look at the latest.

Looking at MKG and RHJ

Both players make some sense for the Mavs. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is a strong defender and rebounder capable of playing both forward positions. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson fits a similar mold. The 25-year-old is averaging 19.7 minutes per game this season for Toronto.

Both players are on expiring contracts and struggle with their shot. That makes an interesting divide. The Mavericks are attempting 41.1 3-pointers per game this season. That is second in the NBA and an all-time historic pace. Adding a player that struggles with their shot does not seem like the perfect fit.

Either player gives Coach Carlisle another option, though. It would allow Dallas to play small and have lineups that focus on defense. That could be massive in the playoffs. Fans know the game tightens in the postseason. Adding strong defenders could help the Mavericks stay in games.
