Dallas Mavericks: Why the Mavs should trade for Danilo Gallinari
By Tyler Watts
3. Upgrade
Danilo Gallinari would be an instant upgrade for the Dallas Mavericks. The 6’10 forward has played 95 percent of his minutes at the four this season according to Basketball-Reference. He has also seen action at the three and the five for short stints. Last season, Gallo played 95 percent of his time as a small forward. He is capable of handling either spot.
That gives Coach Carlisle options. He could play him next to Kristaps Porzingis and Maxi Kleber in a massive lineup. They would also have the ability to going small with Luka, Gallinari, and Porzingis as their three biggest players. Those choices could pay massive dividends in a playoff series.
Gallo would be the starting four for the Mavs. He would knock Justin Jackson from the rotation and limit the minutes of Dorian Finney-Smith. Carlisle could also opt to play Tim Hardaway Jr. and Seth Curry a bit less in each game.
Gallinari would add another dimension to the Mavericks already incredible offense. Check out his highlight reel from last season here.
Gallinari is also capable of getting his own shots. The Mavericks could use that type of option. It would take a bit of workload off Luka Doncic. That would help keep him fresher late in close games.
