Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic joined owner Mark Cuban and center Dwight Powell at the Texas Legends game on Jan 20 in Frisco.

The Dallas Mavericks had off on Martin Luther King Day. They were one of only two NBA teams that did not play on the holiday. The other was the LA Clippers which come to Dallas for a nationally televised showdown on Tuesday. That is the only game on the schedule.

The Mavs were off, but the Texas Legends had a game. The Legends are G-League affiliate for the Mavericks. They were giving away Dwight Powell bobbleheads to the first 500 fans in attendance for Monday’s game.

Powell played eight games for the Legends back in 2015 after he was traded over from the Boston Celtics. The big man dominated by averaging 28.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.3 blocks in 37.8 minutes per game. He also shot 60.0 percent from the field during that brief stint. Powell earned his way into the Maverick rotation after that, and the rest is history.

Powell and Mavs owner Mark Cuban were joined by Luka Doncic in Frisco. The three took in the game together on Jan. 20. Here they are in attendance with Legends assistant GM and Mavericks great Jason Terry.

The Legends dropped a 112-111 heartbreaker to the Salt Lake City Stars on Monday. Dakota Mathias led the way for Texas with 25 points, six rebounds, six assists, two steals, and one block.

It was awesome to see the Mavericks out supporting the club. Luka Doncic showed his incredible leadership by coming to the game. He values everyone in the Mavs organization. That says a lot about his character. It is easy for the star player to look down on people, but that is not Luka.

Dwight Powell was deserving of the honor too. He has worked his way from a second round pick to starter and key piece of the Mavericks rotation. Powell is also one of the league’s most efficient scorers because of his ability as a rim roller.
