The Dallas Mavericks are rumored to be interested in acquiring Robert Covington. Here are five reasons why they should trade for the veteran.

The Dallas Mavericks are a legit contender in the Western Conference. They have won 27 of their 42 games played this season. The Mavs currently rank fifth in the West, but are virtual lock for the playoffs given the nine games cushion between them and the ninth seed.

The Mavericks are hot right now too. They have won four straight and have scored north of 120 points in each of the last three games. That is more impressive when considering Kristaps Porzingis has missed ten straight contests because of knee soreness. No word on when he will return, but the Mavs sound optimistic that KP is improving.

Luka Doncic continues to produce historic stat lines. He is averaging 28.9 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 9.0 assists in 32.8 minutes per game on the season. That includes a league-leading 12 triple-doubles.

Doncic has picked it up with Porzingis out. He continues to help the Mavericks consistently win games. Luka is the thick of the MVP conversation and should be first-team All-NBA at the end of the year.

The trade deadline is fast approaching. The Mavs do not just want to qualify for the playoffs, but they have hopes of making a run. That has the front office scouring the market for potential upgrades before the Feb. 6 deadline.
