Favoring the position next to KP

Derrick Favors of the New Orleans Pelicans could be available at the deadline. The Pels have 15 wins and are currently four games out of the final playoff spot. While not the tallest player, Favors has the ability to grab boards. He is in his first season with the Pelicans. Favors has only played in 23 games so far for various understandable reasons.

After returning to the Pelicans in mid-December, Favors has reminded the league about the value of his rebounding. He grabs 10.0 per game and is capable of handling more minutes than the 23.5 per game he averages this season.

A trade that could help shake things up would likely be centered around Favors for a young player (Justin Jackson), an expiring contract (Courtney Lee), and at least one pick.

Favors suffered a hamstring injury against the Knicks on Jan. 10, but it does not seem to be serious. He is considered day-to-day despite missing the last two games.

New Orleans would benefit by picking up a young player for their bright future as well as another pick for their war chest. At the same time, Courtney Lee does no damage as he is also an aspiring contract that helps match salaries.
