The Dallas Mavericks are a virtual lock to make the playoffs this season. That unexpected development is directly tied to the breakout of Luka Doncic. The 20-year-old leads the league in triple-doubles and is averaging nearly 30 points per game.
Doncic is one of the NBA’s best players at attacking the rim. He is virtually unstoppable. The Mavs star mixes creative finishes, the ability to draw fouls, and a keen use of his body to score at one of the league’s top rates.
Adding in his playmaking chops makes Luka an offensive juggernaut. He is averaging nine assists per game. No player is matching his combination of scoring and dimes this season.
John Hollinger of The Athletic ranked the NBA’s best playmakers right now. Fans can read the entire article here (subscription required). Let us take a look at where Doncic ranks.
2nd in the NBA
Luka Doncic was named the second-best playmaker in the league behind only James Harden by Hollinger. That is unbelievable. Doncic is deserving, but for a 20-year-old to be ranked that high is unheard of. He is already ahead of MVP-favorite Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, and every other player not named Harden.
Doncic may be the best at using trickery to get easy buckets. Whether it is his no-look passes or craftiness around the rim, he is creating scores all over the court. It also makes the Mavericks star must-see viewing. Here is a look at short highlight video from Luka.
Doncic should only improve too. That may be the craziest part. He is proving to be one of the NBA’s best playmakers and legit MVP candidate in his second season. There are plenty of areas where Luka could make gains, though. He could quickly become the face of the league.
Dallas Mavericks fans should be excited about the current and future. Luka Doncic will only improve. He is capable of leading the team into title contention. Stay tuned for what is going to be an unbelievable ride.
