The Dallas Mavericks are in the pole position to trade for Andre Iguodala according to executives from around the league. Find out more here.

The Dallas Mavericks are in an unexpected position. After beating the Brooklyn Nets on Jan. 2, they are 22-12 which is tied for fifth in the Western Conference. The Mavs are only two games out of second, though. That ability to move up into the elite tier makes every victory crucial.

The injury bug is beginning to hit the Mavericks. Ryan Broekhoff fractured his leg and will be out for an extended period. Kristaps Porzingis (knee) and Tim Hardaway Jr. (hamstring) have missed the last two games and appear set to sit out more. That is all shortly after Luka Doncic was sidelined for four contests with an ankle injury.

The Mavericks keep winning which is a testament to their depth. It is next man up, and Dallas has plenty of capable options. Those new players continue to get the job done.

Why the Mavs should trade for Andre Iguodala. More

Making an upgrade is always a wise move, especially when the standings are packed so tightly. The Dallas Mavericks have the ability to win playoff series this season. Luka Doncic is special. He continues to prove that he is a transcendent talent capable of pushing the team to heights it has not since 2011.

Here is a look at a recent rumor that dropped.

Mavs could land Iggy

Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report released his trade buzz column on New Year’s Day. It featured information about a plethora of players that could be on the move before the Feb. 6 deadline. Fans should check it out here.

In his column, he writes that the Memphis Grizzlies will trade Andre Iguodala, and Dallas is “favorite” to land the veteran according to “multiple executives”. He also notes that Marc Stein disputes the team’s interest in Iggy.

My take

The Mavericks should acquire Andre Iguodala. The veteran won three championships in the last five years. That included him hitting plenty of clutch shots. Iguodala would make a significant impact on the defensive end and in the locker room. The Mavs would not have to worry for a second about him negatively impacting their team.

Dallas also has the assets to make the deal easy. They can swap Courtney Lee for Iggy straight up to make the salaries work. The Mavs are not afraid to trade away multiple second round picks either. They did it last summer to acquire Delon Wright.

It will be interesting to see where Andre Iguodala lands over the next month. The 35-year-old is too skilled to be sitting at home. Hopefully, he becomes a member of the Mavericks and helps them make a deep playoff run. Stay tuned to see where he ends up.
