The Dallas Mavericks have kicked the tires on trading the Detroit Pistons for Andre Drummond. Get the latest on the big man here.
The Dallas Mavericks appeared locked into a playoff spot this season. The questions are how high can the Mavs climb up the standings and will it result in postseason success? Those answers are months away.
One thing that would help would be upgrading the roster. The Mavericks have their superstar in Luka Doncic. Kristaps Porzingis is a former All-Star. They have a deep team capable of winning on any given night.
The Mavs could use an upgrade in the frontcourt. Dwight Powell and Maxi Kleber team with Porzingis to handle the majority of the minutes at the four and five. Having one more body would do wonders for Dallas.
The Mavericks could be hunting a massive fish too. Here is the latest.
Mavs interested in Drummond
News broke on Friday that the Detroit Pistons are intensifying their trade talks on Andre Drummond.
Vincent Goodwill sent out the following tweet a short time later.
The Mavericks are smart to ask. Drummond is one of the league’s top centers. Pairing him and Kristaps Porzingis would give Dallas two elite rim protectors. Drummond is the league’s top rebounder and a capable offensive weapon as well.
The seven-footer has a player option for next season. He is likely to opt-out and secure a long-term deal. The Mavs would be willing to offer him one this summer. Acquiring him could be a move that gives Dallas a big three for the foreseeable future.
The news of the Drummond trade talks is still developing. The Pistons appear set to move their star player before the Feb. 6 deadline, though. It will be worth watching if the Mavericks are the team that swoops in and makes the deal. They did it last year in acquiring Porzingis.
