Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis missed his second straight game on Jan. 2. Hear what Coach Carlisle had to say about his status moving forward.
The Dallas Mavericks took a risk in acquiring Kristaps Porzingis last season. He was still recovering from a torn ACL and had not played in over a year. The Mavs had to give up two first round picks plus Dennis Smith Jr. to make the deal, but securing Porzingis’ immense skill and potential was too good to pass up.
Early returns in Mavs uniform have been strong. The Unicorn has become a rim-protecting presence the team has lacked for years. He is also spacing the floor and getting it done on the glass. KP’s ability to shoot at 7’3 causes nightmares for the opposition.
Unfortunately, Kristaps Porzingis was injured on Dec. 29 against the Los Angeles Lakers. He finished the game but sat out the following contest against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Unicorn was ruled out well in advance of Thursday’s action too. Here is the latest.
Carlisle offers no timetable
In his press conference prior to the Dallas Mavericks facing the Brooklyn Nets, Coach Rick Carlisle offered this on the status of both Porzingis and Tim Hardaway Jr.
Carlisle says no timetable on Hardaway and Porzingis. “Obviously on both of those guys we’ve got to get it right.”

It is not surprising for THJ. Hamstring injuries are always tricky, so fans should have expected him to miss at least a week before returning.
Porzingis’ injury has a lot more question marks. The team is deeming it knee soreness, but not offering any clues as to why it is occurring. That makes it hard to draw any conclusions. Hopefully, it does not turn into a long-term absence for KP.
His next chance to take the court is on Saturday against the Charlotte Hornets. Tim MacMahon did provide this update after the Mavericks win over the Nets.
I’m told it’s likely that Kristaps Porzingis misses one more game due to his sore right knee, but he’s expected to return next week.

The Mavs are in the midst of a long homestand. Getting Porzingis back before they head out of town would be a positive for the team.
The Smoking Cuban will provide updates on Kristaps Porzingis’ injury as they become available plus examinations of the Dallas Mavericks this season, so supporters should return regularly.
