The Dallas Mavericks take on the Sacramento Kings tonight, but will be without backup guard, Delon Wright. Wright left yesterday’s game in the first quarter with a groin injury.

The Dallas Mavericks will not have backup point guard, Delon Wright, for tonight’s contest with the Sacramento Kings, according to Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News. Wright is currently averaging 21 minutes per game, so the Mavs will have to figure out a new strategy for tonight’s game.

It is unclear how long Wright will be out for, but he is considered day-to-day at this point. The official diagnosis from yesterday was a right groin strain which means that any x-rays came back negative and his prognosis should improve quickly. This is just from my general understanding of the injury and no background medical knowledge of any kind.

The Mavs are going to have to figure something out defensively in place of Wright. Although it may just be for this game and maybe a couple more, the Mavs have relied on his defense in the backcourt a lot this year. Seth Curry and Tim Hardaway Jr. have been pretty good on the defensive end, Wright has been a difference maker.

The Kings are missing some key players tonight as well so the loss of Wright isn’t as pressing as it could have been, but if he misses anymore time, there could be an issue. After the game against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, the Mavs have their toughest stretch of games yet, playing the top five teams in the East all in a row.

If Wright isn’t ready to go by the time Dallas shows up in Miami, things could get a little more dicey. We hope that Delon can get this thing figured out and get back on the court quickly, but would rather him make sure it is fully healthy over trying to come back too early.

The Mavs and Kings tip off at 6:00pm central time in Dallas at the American Airlines Center. Dallas will likely be rolling with the usual starting five while Sacramento will continue to work with the players they have and rely on Buddy Hield for the big scoring punch.
