The Dallas Mavericks are in the thick of the playoff race after their first 19 games. Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey does not expect that to stop anytime soon.

The Dallas Mavericks are playing better than anyone expected this season. They have 13 wins in their first 19 games. That includes victories over the Lakers, Rockets, and Nuggets on their home floors.

It is not just the wins, though. Luka Doncic has taken a superstar leap that has him in the thick of the MVP race to begin his second season. He is leading the best offense in the NBA. The Mavs sit third in net rating. They are an elite offensive team that holds their own on the defensive end.

Mavericks fans are hesitant to believe that they will be in the thick of the playoff race all season, though. The team is coming off a 33-win year. The Mavs GOAT Dirk Nowitzki retired, and they have missed the playoffs for three straight seasons.

Rockets GM a believer

Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey sent out the following tweet on Dec. 2.

He is clearly a believer in the Dallas Mavericks this season. Morey has been the Rockets GM since 2007. He orchestrated their current run. Morey was also named Executive of the Year in 2018. He knows his stuff and is no stranger to success.

Dallas is a legit threat in the Western Conference. The Mavericks and Rockets are currently tied for fourth. Having a road victory over three of the four top teams make it easier to buy. Dallas is beating the best the conference has to offer.

The Mavs have a legit MVP candidate too. Luka Doncic is not slowing down. He continues to produce a near-nightly 30-point triple-double. The 20-year-old has the team scoring at an elite rate and should continue to improve as the season progresses.
