Dallas Mavericks GOAT Dirk Nowitzki was honored by the Dallas Stars on Nov. 2. See more including Dirk reading the starting lineup here.

The Dallas Mavericks are playing well so far. They have won three of their first five games. Fans will note they are “this close” to being undefeated. Luka Doncic is playing masterfully. Kristaps Porzingis looks healthy and ready for a massive season. Something has been missing from the Mavs, though.

That void is Dirk Nowitzki. It has been odd watching the Mavericks and not seeing the legend out there. 21 consecutive years of greatness has that impact. Dirk in many ways is the Mavericks.

He has been living it up in retirement, though. Nowitzki had a busy week. The city of Dallas named a street after him outside the American Airlines Center. Dirk got in a bit more action on Saturday night too.

Ceremonial first puck

The Dallas Stars hosted the Montreal Canadiens on Nov. 2. They honored Dirk Nowitzki by allowing him to do the puck drop before the game.

Nowitzki was also in the locker room pregame to read out the starting lineup and fire up the Stars.

The Tall Baller from G did the job. Dallas scored in all three periods en route to a 4-1 win over Montreal.

First Mavs game?

It will be interesting to see when Dirk attends his first Mavericks game of the season. The organization plans to honor him plenty in the coming years. Nowitzki has talked about bringing his kids to games this season. It will be awesome having Dirk back in the arena.

Nowitzki does not want to rush it, though. He wants to give Luka and KP time to shine. Fans should not be surprised. Dirk is always doing it right.

Hopefully, the legend is enjoying his retirement. The Stars likely want him back ASAP after their dominant win on Saturday. Expect to hear some Mavericks related Dirk Nowitzki news soon. Until then, enjoy watching their new exciting star duo ball out.
