Dallas Mavericks supporters cannot wait to see Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis take the floor on Wednesday evening. It marks the dawning of a new era of Mavs basketball. Dirk Nowitzki is settled into retirement. Luka and KP have to take over as the faces of the team.
There is excitement about the team’s potential too. The Mavericks believe they can make the playoffs this season. The team should only improve each year too. Doncic and Porzingis continue to grow and have not reached their primes.
The star duo did nothing to quash the buzz this preseason. The Dallas Mavericks won two of four games they played in. Luka and KP produced plenty of highlights too. See their top plays below courtesy of the NBA’s official Twitter.

What to expect early on
The Mavs are still building chemistry. Kristaps Porzingis still hasn’t played in an NBA regular season game since Feb. 2018. It could be a bit of a slow start for both KP and the team.
The schedule is favorable, though. Six of their first 11 games are against teams projected to finish in the lottery. Dallas needs to win those games to make the playoffs in the deep Western Conference.
That means they need Porzingis locked in on opening night. It will be interesting because he is traditionally a fast starter. Which will hold true this season?
Luka Doncic had a strong preseason and looks ready to lead the team. The Mavericks may rely on him a bit more as the Unicorn gets fully back in the saddle. Doncic is primed to take a leap forward in his second season.
