Dallas Mavericks fans caught a glimpse of the new lines on the practice court this season. Here is why that could pay off for the team.

The Dallas Mavericks took the fourth most 3-point attempts in the NBA last season, but they finished 27th in 3-point percentage. The Mavs added shooting this offseason. The team plans on more threes in the 2019-2020 campaign.

Coach Carlisle has to find ways to get the Mavericks open looks. Luka Doncic will find his teammates. He is a superb passer with the vision and IQ to make any play.

The Dallas Mavericks are taking a bit of a different tact this season. They have added two blue lines to the practice at 28 and 30 feet from the basket. Fans can see a photo here courtesy of Eddie Sefko.

Why it could pay off

Shooting from further out seems counterproductive, but it may just be the opposite. The defense is less likely to guard 30 feet away from the basket. If the Mavs can prove they can make consistently from that distance it further spaces the floor when they do.

Fans may remember this Damian Lillard shot to eliminate the Oklahoma City Thunder from the playoffs last season. Paul George refuses to guard Lillard at the logo, and Dame makes him pay.

The Mavericks do not have Damian Lillard. Two of their players have shown that range, though. Seth Curry drilled plenty from deep 3-point range last season. Fans can see a few in this highlight package.

Supporters know Luka Doncic also can make those shots. He will use his stepback to create space. That will sometimes drive him well beyond the 3-point line.

The Mavericks developing a few other players with that floor stretching range could pay massive dividends this season. The addition of Kristaps Porzingis’ shooting and scoring ability will be a boost to the offense. More shooting will push Dallas closer to their goal of the postseason.

Dallas Mavericks fans should monitor the team’s 3-point shooting this season. It will be interesting to see their frequency of attempts and how many they take from well-beyond the arc. The Smoking Cuban will be here to bring it all to supporters and much more, so please check back with us daily.
