Dallas Mavericks point guard Delon Wright got in a limited practice as the team opened training camp on Oct. 1. Hear from Wright about the injury and what to expect.
The Dallas Mavericks aggressively targeted Delon Wright in the offseason. He was a restricted free agent, but the Grizzlies had just acquired him from the Raptors at the trade deadline. They wanted to keep Wright in Memphis long-term, but the Mavs made an offer they did not refuse.
Wright got a three-year $28.05 million contract from the Mavs. They view him as a valuable point guard that can excel on the defensive end of the floor. He will be the secondary ball-handler in the starting unit as well.
Wright injured his hamstring in the lead up to training camp, though. Coach Carlisle gave fans an update after the first practice on Oct. 1 which fans can see below courtesy of Dwain Price.
Rick Carlisle on the 1st day of training camp: "Delon Wright (hamstring) was limited. . .but he went through a good bit of the non-contact stuff without any issues. (JJ) Barea (achilles surgery) went through a majority of the practice live, and did well." @dallasmavs #Mavs

The fact that Wright practiced in any capacity was a positive. The Mavs are expecting significant contributions from the 27-year-old. He needs to be healthy to get ready to play that role on opening night.
Delon Wright met with the media after practice on Tuesday too. He talked about his injury, why he choose Dallas and more. Fans can see what he had to say below.
It is still a situation to monitor. Wright has not been cleared to run. Hamstring injuries have a tendency to flare up when a player is close to returning to action too. Until Wright gets in multiple days of full practice fans should keep an eye on his health.
He has the opportunity to prove he is a starting point guard in the NBA. That was why Wright wanted out of Toronto, so it will be interesting to see how he performs in Dallas. It could be a breakout year for the 27-year-old.
Dallas Mavericks supporters should return to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest on Delon Wright plus unmatched analysis on the team this season.
