Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic will be trying his hand at tennis on Sunday as he agreed to be part of the annual Dirk Nowitzki Pro Celebrity Tennis Classic.
Dallas Mavericks fans love Dirk Nowitzki. The Mavs GOAT may be retired, but he is still holding his annual tennis tournament to raise money for his charity. This year’s event takes place on Sunday, Sept. 15. It starts at 11 a.m. CT at the SMU Tennis Center.
Hall of Famer and former Mavericks point guard Steve Nash along with a few tennis professionals were announced as taking part prior to Tuesday. The rest of the lineup came is now on Sept. 10.
Reigning NBA Rookie of the Year and current Mavs star Luka Doncic was confirmed as taking part in the event. It will be interesting to see his tennis skill. The 20-year-old is a joy to watch on the basketball court, but it may not translate. Dirk is known for his thunderous serve, will Luka have something similar? All fans should be excited to find out.
Supporters can bet Doncic will be having a blast. The point forward is always smiling and enjoying life. He is clutch on the basketball court. That gene could pay off in tennis as well.
Doncic will not be the only current Maverick taking part. Dwight Powell and J.J. Barea were both announced as participating. Former Mav Devin Harris is also scheduled to play.
Barea’s recovery for his torn Achilles must be going well if he is taking part. That is good news for Dallas. It will be a competition between Barea and Jalen Brunson for that backup point guard role.
Mavericks fans should drop by on Sunday. It is a chance to support a fantastic cause plus Dirk and others will be signing autographs. Tickets are still available here.
