The Dallas Mavericks are set for a bounce back year after a few less than stellar seasons. What is going to make this season so exciting for the Mavs that each game will be worth watching?

The Dallas Mavericks have a lot of redeeming qualities about their team this year, most of which are going to help make this one of the more entertaining teams in the league this year. The way the league is setup also makes this a very unique year for the Mavs.

For those still wondering, this is going to be a very telling season as to just how good the team is. Here are just a few things to keep an eye on and things that will play a role for the team both this year and going forward.

Playoff potential

This is the first Dallas Mavericks team that has had a realistic shot at the playoffs since 2014-15, which was Monta Ellis‘ last season in a Dallas uniform. This was a very fascinating Mavericks team that really should have done better than they did, but some players who were less interested in playing than they should have been hurt the team badly.

This year should be different as Dallas has a roster full of people who want to go to the postseason and contribute towards a real playoff run. Not the least of these is the Mavericks biggest addition this side of Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis.

KP came from a really undesirable situation in New York where he was unable to make it to the playoffs. This largely led to Porzingis’ trade demand and ultimate setup here. The Mavs happened to have the right price for a swap and one of the best shooters in the world joined a team desperately wanting a playoff berth.

This isn’t just about wanting, though. The Mavs have a good roster full of solid shooters playmakers, good defenders and players that like to play all around. This is going to help Dallas cover up some of their weaknesses and will give Rick Carlisle a lot of opportunity to make some adjustments that can help the team in whatever situations may come up.

The versatility of this roster is maybe the most important part of it. Even though the team has only two real bonafide stars, there are some great role players that will be learning their roles with this new lineup and can hopefully turn Dallas into a well-oiled machine on the court.
