Dallas Mavericks rookie Isaiah Roby helped other staffers build a home with Habitat for Humanity on Sept. 5. See why the cause is important to the forward.

The Dallas Mavericks drafted Isaiah Roby in the second round this summer. The combo forward earned a roster spot with team, but will likely see most of his playing time in the G-League on the Texas Legends this season. Roby is known for his defense chops.

The 21-year-old made news for a different reason on Thursday. Let us take a look.

Mavs Day of Service

The Dallas Mavericks celebrated their Day of Service on Sept. 5. This is the second straight year employees have done charity work to make the community a better place.

This year they helped build a home with Habitat for Humanity. Rookie Isaiah Roby decided to participate as the charity has a special place in his heart. Hear his story below courtesy of the Mavericks official Twitter.

The Mavs also donated $15,000 to the charity. It was a fantastic day for all involved. The Mavericks are always doing their part in the community.

Roby’s development

Isaiah Roby improved significantly in his three years at Nebraska. He went from playing 15.2 minutes per game as a freshman to 31.2 as a junior. The Mavs would be wise to find areas where Roby can develop his game this season.

The 21-year-old stands out on the defensive end, but doing it in the NBA is a different story. Expect Roby to be focused on improving in that area.

Ideally, he betters his 3-point shooting and playmaking ability on the offensive end of the floor. Roby shot 33.6 percent over his 146 career NCAA 3-point attempts. He also averaged 1.9 assists per game despite being able to handle the ball.

It will be a year of development for Roby. Mavericks supporters should not expect to see him in the rotation unless injuries strike. That will make playing for the Legends more important.
