The 2019 BIG3 season is coming to an end, and despite some solid play from several former Dallas Mavericks players, only one has made it to the championship game this year.

There were several BIG3 players this year that at one point called the Dallas Mavericks their team. Some of these players are fondly remembered Mavs like Jason Terry, DeShawn Stevenson or even Amar’e Stoudemire and Drew Gooden. And some of these guys are lesser-remembered players, like Shawne Williams, Anthony Morrow and the man playing in today’s championship, Josh Powell.

That said, these guys will always be a part of the Mavs family, even if many of the fans don’t necessarily remember them very well. Josh Powell may have only been with the team for one year, but it deserves to be remembered.

Powell was with the Mavericks all the way back in 2005-06 as a rookie. In his rookie season, he played in 37 games, starting two of them for Dallas. He averaged 3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 11.6 minutes of action that season. After Dallas, Powell went on to play for the Indiana Pacers, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks and one game for the Houston Rockets.

Powell was drafted into the BIG3 this year, qualifying for the age requirement as he is now 36 years old. The team Killer 3’s, led by captain, Stephen Jackson (not the former running back for the St. Louis Rams) selected Powell with the 4th overall pick. Powell had most recently been playing in the Korean basketball league before joining the BIG3.

The Killer 3’s will be taking on the Triplets for the title today. The Triplets are led by Hall of Fame coach, Lisa Leslie, and the best player in the league by a large margin this year, Joe Johnson. Johnson is the leading scorer in the league so far this year and is miles ahead of the next guy on the list.

The BIG3 Championship will be taking place at 3:00 CT and can be watched on CBS. The 3rd place game will take place prior to the championship game between Team Power and the Three-Headed Monsters.
