The Dallas Mavericks have reportedly claimed former Mississippi State Bulldog, Aric Holman, off of the waivers after the Los Angeles Lakers released him in order to make room for Dwight Howard.

The Dallas Mavericks are still making some roster moves before the season begins, reportedly claiming Aric Holman, former forward from the Mississippi State Bulldogs and summer league player with the Los Angeles Lakers, off of the waivers, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. This move would put the Mavs to 15 roster members, meaning they would still need to make some cuts before the season begins.

This deal is not a guaranteed deal and Holman will likely not make the opening day roster, but it is good seeing the Mavericks making moves still in hopes of making the team better. Holman played four years of college ball with Mississippi State and was a regular starter for three of those years.

Holman was not a standout college player in the SEC, but he was a consistent scorer and shot blocker on a team with a lot of size. Holman was one of six players on last year’s Mississippi State roster that was at least 6’10”.

Since Dallas has already filled all of their roster spots with guaranteed contracts, Holman could potentially be a guy they keep around in the G-League to get some early development. His time with the Lakers was short, but he does seemed to be viewed as a good potential talent going forward.

Holman joins Dakota Mathias as Mavs guys that will most likely be spending the year with the Texas Legends.

We would like to welcome Aric Holman to the MFFL family, however, and wish him the best of luck in his upcoming basketball career. It is an impressive feat in itself just to get an NBA team to pick up a player and we look forward to seeing why in the upcoming years.
