Yesterday was National Dog Day according to social media, so the Dallas Mavericks Twitter account took the opportunity to give us a look at two of the player’s canine companions.

Man’s best friend probably deserves more than just one day to be celebrated, but it never hurts to have a time when we can post pictures of all of our pups without stuffing the feed. There are not a bunch of well-documented dogs from Dallas Mavericks players, but there are a couple, thanks to Luka Doncic and Ryan Broekhoff.

When you become a professional athlete, the people are no longer interested in just what is happening on the court or field. Instead, the private lives and hobbies outside of the game are very interesting to the big fans as well. For one, most fans love to keep up with the families of the players.

Think of how much we have loved seeing Dirk Nowitzki and his wife Jessica and their children grow together. Or what about J.J. Barea bringing his son to the games and Devin Harris being there with his nephew.

Other times, we like talking about hobbies from these guys. How many times did we talk about Dennis Smith Jr., Dorian Finney-Smith and Luka playing Fortnite? The video game thing is even bigger for other guys across the league.

With Luka, the fascination with the off-court personality has gotten bigger because he has such a big social media presence. Social media wasn’t hardly a thing until Dirk was well into the prime of his career and there hasn’t been another superstar in a Mavs uniform since then. So the obsession is not surprising.

Luka has been very open about the love he has for his dog, Hugo. Hugo is a little dog that has been shown all over Luka’s instagram, traveling to several places with the Slovenian star. Needless to say, that dog has a more exciting life than most people.

The other dog we got a chance to see was Ryan Broekhoff’s bigger pup, Leo. Leo has recently gotten another new friend with Ryan and his wife welcoming their firstborn into the world just a few months ago. Ryan, his son, Jackson, and his dog Leo are all pictured in the tweet above.

The Mavs are a basketball team first and foremost, but it sure is fun getting to know more about these guys off the court. And who doesn’t love a few pictures of some cute dogs on their feed, right?
