Dallas Mavericks big man Maxi Kleber helped the German National Team to a win over Tunisia on Aug. 23. See how he performed here.
The Dallas Mavericks made a significant commitment to Maxi Kleber this summer. The 27-year-old entered restricted free agency, and the Mavs rewarded him with a four-year $35.9 million contract. Kleber is heading into his third NBA season. He continues to improve his game every year.
Maxi Kleber is currently playing for his native Germany as they prepare for the 2019 FIBA World Cup. They have two games in Japan as a tune-up this weekend. The first took place on Friday. Here is the latest.
Germany defeats Tunisia
The German National Team got out to a slow start but defeated Tunisia 89-70 on Aug. 23.
Kleber started at the four. He produced a fantastic stat line. Kleber finished with 15 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 22.2 minutes. He was six of eight from the field including nailing three of his four 3-point attempts.
Former Maverick Salah Mejri was the star for Tunisia. He dropped 30 points on 12 of 20 from the field. Mejri also produced 13 rebounds, one assist, three 3-pointers made, and three blocks in 39.2 minutes. FIBA basketball is only a 40-minute game, so Mejri played in every minute.

The German National Team plays Japan on Saturday in another exhibition game. The Japanese National Team lost their last time out against Argentina. Rookie Rui Hachimura has been the team’s leading scorer this summer. He was the ninth overall pick by the Washington Wizards. It will be interesting to see how he matches up against Maxi Kleber on Saturday.
Germany is part of Group G at the World Cup. Their first game is on Sept. 1 against France in Shenzhen. Expect Kleber to start and be an important part of the team’s success.
