The Dallas Mavericks have been blessed for several years with the kind heart of Dirk Nowitzki. Even though Dirk’s kind efforts will continue, having that mindset on the roster is a big thing. Dorian Finney-Smith has taken that role.

For the last 20 years of Dallas Mavericks basketball, it has become the norm that Dirk Nowitzki was not just the best person on the court, but the best person off it, too. We saw time and time again that Dirk spent a lot of his time working with charities, children’s hospitals and the community of Dallas in general to better the world around him.

Although Dirk is the gold standard in that area (and in the basketball area), the Mavs have had some players who have been very willing and ready to get involved in the community. Harrison Barnes, for one, loved working with the youth in DFW and had several charitable events that he attended in order to help the youth.

Devin Harris and Dwight Powell have done several charitable events together as well, passing out turkeys and other food for Thanksgiving every year as well as their efforts to help kids get gifts during Christmas. Other Mavs players have been very involved in both the Dallas community and their own home communities as well.

One player who has really pushed his charitable efforts recently is newly re-signed forward, Dorian Finney-Smith. Dorian has been a great player for the Mavs since they signed him after going undrafted a few years back, but it has been a joy seeing him get more comfortable on the court as well as off it.

It is clear that Dorian has a love for the kids in the area and has been doing what he can to get involved in helping them with camps, hanging out with them and doing whatever else he can to be the great human being that he is.

It has been a real blessing to the Mavs, to Dallas and really to all the communities that are blessed by their NBA teams and players throughout the country as we have been able to see the charitable nature of many of the great players in the league. Dorian is just another example of these young men who have a recognition of what is most important: helping others when you can.

The NBA is a special league and it continues to get more and more amazing with each passing year. We are excited to see the impact these guys have on the court, but it is important to recognize the impact they have off the court as well.

Next. Mavs roster update and potential starting lineup

Dorian Finney-Smith is looking to be a key part of the Mavericks rotation going forward and Dallas will be blessed for it in more ways than one. Thank you for all that you do for the team and for the community, Dorian. It is certainly not going unnoticed.
