Dallas Mavericks center Boban Marjanovic was limited to five minutes as the Serbian National Team stayed undefeated on Aug. 18.
The Dallas Mavericks improved their roster this summer. Boban Marjanovic should be the team’s new reserve center. He is going to protect the rim and rebound. Boban will be a productive part of the rotation when called upon by Coach Carlisle.
The 7’3 big man is currently overseas playing for his native Serbia. They are preparing for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China. Here is the latest.
Acropolis International Tournament
The Serbian National Team traveled to Greece to play three games in the Acropolis International Tournament. The competition was a World Cup tune-up for Serbia, Turkey, Italy, and Greece. The final round was played on Sunday. Here are the results.
Serbia defeats the host
Serbia capped off an undefeated run with an 85-80 overtime victory against Greece on Aug. 18. Reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo dropped 20, but it was not enough to stave off the Serbia comeback.
Boban Marjanovic was limited to 5.3 minutes on Sunday. Serbia was playing for the third consecutive day. The team decided to rest star Nikola Jokic prior to tipoff. Boban had two rebounds and missed his only two field goal attempts.
Mavs fans should not worry. Marjanovic did not match-up well against Greece and was given some rest. Expect him to be part of Serbia’s World Cup squad.
A threat to the USA?
Serbia is currently the second favorite behind Team USA to win the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Sacramento Kings wing Bogdan Bogdanovic is on fire. He just produced 28 points, seven rebounds, and four assists against Greece. Serbia also features All-Star center Nikola Jokic.
Team USA should still be considered a strong favorite, but Serbia has a talented squad. They may lack the depth to hang with the Americans. It will be an entertaining game in September if the matchup materializes.
