The Dallas Mavericks rolled out the 41.21.1. day on Dirk Nowitzki’s final home game at the American Airlines Center last year. It ended up being one of the most fascinating, bittersweet moments Mavs fans have ever experienced.

For generations past, present and future, the Dallas Mavericks will always be remembered as Dirk Nowitzki‘s home for over two decades. After countless memorable moments, plays, games, etc. from the big German over 21 years, Dirk decided to hang it up and call it a career. Although this announcement was not made fully until his final home game, most knew it was coming.

The Mavs plans for the game were not made public until late in the season, but once the 41.21.1. banners went up, we all knew there was going to be a great celebration in honor of the greatest athlete in Dallas sports history. What Mark Cuban and the rest of the Mavs brain trust delivered was even better than we could have expected.

Unfortunately, this event was not available for everyone to see live. Between a limited number of seats and a lack of broadcasting to everywhere in the world, there could have been some that didn’t get to experience all the glory that was brought out from the pregame all the way to the very end of Dirk’s final press conference.

Much of the game is available on YouTube, Facebook, etc. but one cool way to re-live (or experience for the first time) Dirk’s final home game at the AAC, is actually through Instagram, where the NBA’s page had a number of things saved from previous events. The story is just below the main picture, but above the rest of the story.

It was really cool to be able to click on that “41.21.1.” story and go back and see all the fun parts, but also all the emotion that day carried with it. Dirk may have been Dallas’ icon, but he influenced the entire NBA in some way.
