The Dallas Mavericks and sponsor, 5miles, have reportedly agreed to part ways this coming season. 5miles logo was on the Mavs jersey, so Dallas will need to look for a new sponsor to add to the front of the jersey this year.

The Dallas Mavericks reported yesterday that they would be ending their deal with the neighborhood selling app, 5miles, a year earlier than expected. The Mavs have been paired with the company for a little while, as the bright orange logo on the front of each of the jerseys proved to us.

Dallas is now in the market for a new sponsor for the jersey sponsorship going forward. As far as companies who sponsor NBA teams go, the Mavs were definitely on the lower end for both recognizable company names and for the overall look of the patch. The clashing orange of the 5miles logo just never really fit.

Some teams have great companies that have paired with them on their jerseys. The Boston Celtics got General Electric, Cleveland Cavaliers got Goodyear tires, the Philadelphia 76ers got StubHub and several others. There were recognizable names or matching logos for many of the NBA uniforms, but not for the Mavs.

With the new availability for a sponsor on the Mavericks jerseys, some ideas have been thrown out there that would be a lot of fun. Dr. Pepper originated in Texas and is now one of the top soda brands in the world. The red/maroon of Dr. Pepper would not match well, but the name would be noticeable quickly.

Whataburger is another one that has been thrown around. I would prefer not to see anymore orange on the Mavs jerseys, and maybe a Chicago company shouldn’t even be considered, but there is very little that says Texas quite like a Whataburger.

Lastly, American Airlines would make a lot of sense as a jersey sponsor since they are already the sponsor of the Mavs arena. That would put them all over the place for the Mavs, something they would be happy with considering they are headquartered in Dallas. Even still, would be surprised if this is the route the Mavs go.

In reality, the Mavs will probably sign again with a smaller company that very few have heard of. There is nothing wrong with that and I look forward to seeing who the new logo is on the jersey, but for now, we can at least look forward to something a little bit different.
