Dallas Mavericks fans got the news that Vince Carter is returning to the Atlanta Hawks on a one-year deal. Carter will break a record shared by Dirk Nowitzki.
Dallas Mavericks GOAT Dirk Nowitzki tied a record by playing 21 seasons in the NBA. Former Mav Vince Carter joined him in that feat. They share the record with Robert Parish, Kevin Willis, and Kevin Garnett.
Nowitzki is the only player ever to play 21 seasons with one team. Mavericks supporters know that he retired at the end of the year. Dirk will go down as an all-time great and first-ballot Hall of Famer.
Carter back to Atlanta
Vince Carter is set for his 22nd season this fall. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Carter agreed to a one-year deal with the Atlanta Hawks on August 5. Woj also reported that Vinsanity plans to hang up the sneakers after the 2019-2020 season.
Carter played for the Hawks last year. He averaged 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 17.5 minutes per game. The 42-year-old is also a mentor to the young Atlanta squad. Carter has 21 seasons of NBA experience and is an eight-time All-Star.
Vince Carter played for Dallas for three seasons from 2011 to 2014. Carter was a productive role player in his mid-30’s at that point in his career. He averaged 12.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 25.1 minutes a night during his Mavs tenure.
Farewell tour?
Fans should monitor what the NBA does special for Carter. Will he get an All-Star game invite like Dirk and Dwyane Wade did in 2019? Vinsanity will be showered with gifts and tributes in each arena. That is another storyline worth following this season.
