Dallas Mavericks current star Luka Doncic and Hall of Famer Jason Kidd both won the Rookie of the Year playing in Dallas. Here is a highlight mashup.

The Dallas Mavericks have only had two Rookie of the Year winners in their franchise history. Luka Doncic became the second last season. Hall of Famer Jason Kidd shared the award with Grant Hill in 1995.

The similarities do not stop there between Doncic and Kidd. Each man was a top-three selection in his draft class. Both averaged over five rebounds and 5.9 assists per game as rookies. Only six other first-year players since 1990 have accomplished that feat.

Both men also put together impressive highlights during their rookie seasons. The Dallas Mavericks did a mashup celebrating their two Rookies of the Year which supporters can enjoy below.

It is worth mentioning that Kidd was a 21-year-old rookie. Luka won’t turn 21 until February of his second season.

Mavs fans are hoping Doncic can follow a similar career trajectory. Kidd was an All-Star in his second season. He went on to make ten All-Star teams, six All-NBA squads, and he won the championship with the Mavericks in 2011. Kidd’s body of work saw him inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018.

Luka Doncic is a long way from the hall, but he could easily be an All-Star in the coming season. The 20-year-old is a unique talent. He can shoot, pass, score, rebound, and defend. Luka’s potential may only be outweighed by Mavs fans’ excitement about his career prospects.

Supporters are hoping the main difference becomes that the Mavericks don’t trade Doncic during his third season. They swapped Kidd for Michael Finley, Sam Cassell, and A.C. Green in Dec. of 1996. The Mavs brought J-Kidd back from 2008 to 2012.
