With the crazy trades and free agency moves made this summer with all the star power flooding to the coasts, The Step Back by FanSided released a graphic showing the top winning percentages in the NBA over the past 15 years.

The Dallas Mavericks have been one of the best organizations in the NBA since the turn of the century, something most Mavs fans are fully aware of. Despite a brief rebuild period over the past few seasons, Dallas is looking to get back to the winning ways that we have grown so accustomed to.

Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis are going to be ready to push the Mavs back into relevance as well. After three consecutive losing seasons, Mavs fans are tired of the rebuild era. This says a lot about what we have grown up with, considering most franchises rebuild for much longer than that.

The new look NBA coming this season is going to be dominated by the teams on the coasts, from what it appears. the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers both got significantly better, the Brooklyn Nets will be a force to reckon with for the next few years and the Golden State Warriors are still plenty threatening.

This new wave has pushed out a belief that the NBA is dominated by the big market teams near the coast. According to a tweet from The Step Back, that does not appear to be very truthful. In fact, the most dominant franchises over the past 15 years all sit about as far from the coasts as you can get.

That’s right, the three most successful franchises since 2004 are all from Texas. The San Antonio Spurs sit at the top with a near 70% win rate over the past 15 years, an unbelievable accomplishment. After the Spurs, the Houston Rockets come up at just over 60% win percentage. They are followed closely by the Mavs with 58.2% win percentage.

In fact, those top three teams stay the same (with Dallas and Houston switching places) even if you take the parameters back to the 1997-98 season. These three teams have dominated the winning ways of the NBA for over 20 years and it is surprising no one within the state of Texas, as we have grown so accustomed to winning basketball seasons.

So, if anyone asks you what state has the best basketball in the United States, it sounds like Texas is the obvious answer. Now if we can just get back on track in some football.

In the past 22 seasons, only three franchises have won over 1,000 total games. From barbecue to football to NBA win totals to state fairs and fried foods, I guess everything really is bigger in Texas.
