The NBA has started ranking the top 20 “handles” from the 2018-19 season. Dallas Mavericks guard, Luka Doncic has already found himself on the list, coming in at No. 16 against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Dallas Mavericks have been a great basketball team for a huge part of the franchise’s existence, but they have almost never been a flashy team. Being led by Dirk Nowitzki for two decades makes it pretty much impossible to be viewed as flashy, even though his style of play is incredible and fascinating to watch.

Luka Doncic, however, is flashy and he is flashy unintentionally, really. His game has been crafted for years and years to help him shoot in a variety of ways, create space against players more athletic than him and capitalize on open opportunities.

This was noticeable throughout his rookie season in which he showed off some of the best ball handling in the league. We have already seen some of his top highlights from last year, but one of those highlights has already put him in the NBA’s top 20 handles from the 2018-19 season. His move against the Los Angeles Clippers landed him at No. 16.

This is a really amazing move from Luka, splitting the defense, putting the ball in pretty much the only place that kept it away from the defenders and then still having all the poise to get the ball and finish at the rim right away. It is really fun to see one of the best ball handlers in the league on the Dallas Mavericks.

It is hard to imagine that this will be the last time we see Luka in the top 20 handles for the season. This was not widely considered his best move of the year and there are a couple times where he really shook past some of the best defenders in the league. Hopefully some of those will be higher up in the rankings.

Luka has already made his mark on the city of Dallas and the NBA as a whole. With only one season of NBA ball under his belt, you can bet that Luka will be even better next year and in the years to come.
